Hérétique are Jon Loomes (Hurdy gurdy, guitar, vocals), Michael Beeke (Bagpipes, recorder, percussion, vocals) and Murray Grainger (Button and Piano Accordions, Bandoneon, Vocals), with fresh and innovative music based on foot-stomping traditional dance tunes and sensational songs from all over Europe (particularly France). Dazzling vocals and the unique sounds of accordion, bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy combine to create a powerful blend of infectious melodies and driving rhythm.
Guaranteed to excite and entertain,
Hérétique deliver an electrifying fusion of energy and humour. Seriously good musicians having a lot of fun channelling their inner Monty Python and Bonzos.
Ma Polaine’s Great Decline
Making a very welcome return to ACE Space, all the way from Andover, the duo of Beth Packer (vocals, harmonica, double bass, accordion) and Clinton Hough (electric and acoustic guitar). Influenced by blues, jazz and folk but hard to pigeon-hole, they have been described as “like a young Billie Holiday gate-crashing a Tom Waits Swordfishtrombones recording session”. Original writing is the focus, with oddness, sparsity and a subtle quality that is their own. There is a freedom for Packer to explore her vocal qualities and lyric writing, creating tales of haunting beauty, veiled sorrow, and a darker image of happiness.
Start: 8:00pm (Doors Open 7:30)
