MONSTER CEILIDH BAND are redefining what ceilidh means by combining traditional dance forms with contemporary electronic dance music. Their powerful and uncompromising approach has brought them to the attention of many major Festivals like Cambridge and Bestival. They have been guided by bands like Shooglenifty, Martyn Bennet, and the Peatbog Faeries continuing in the fusion genre with their own take of Electronic fusion. D’nB producer the Touch works together with electronic experimentalist and bassist David de la Haye to produce an electronic augmentation of compositions that Amy, Shona, Grace and Kieran write. The result is a crucible for smelting riffs, massive chord progressions, intense electronics, folk tunes and a wide variety of styles.
This gig is part of their tour promoting their latest CD “Mutations”, due for release Spring 2017. It will be seated but space will be made for anyone driven out of their seat by the rhythm (i.e. feel the urge to dance).
The Curious Sounds
They describe themselves as “a steampunk mish-mash of New Orleans jazz and brooding waltzes, with a punch of travelling circus”. We would describe them as the band that went down a storm when they appeared at ACE Space at an Unplugged evening and later as part of In The Frame. As winners of “has Reading Got Talent?” they proved the answer to that question was YES.
If you are missing your tuba fix after the departure of Bellowhead then you need to experience The Curious Sound.
Start: 8:00pm (Doors Open 7:30)
